WCSD to Participate in National Lemonade Day

On Saturday, May 19, Wooster residents may see an unusual number of lemonade stands popup around the city. For the second consecutive year, Wooster City School District students are participating in National Lemonade Day.

Wooster High School Earns Silver Medal Ranking by U. S. News

U.S. News released its fourth edition of the “Best High Schools” in the United States, ranking schools and distributing grades based on various proficiencies. Wooster High School was awarded a Silver Medal.

 

“I can’t say enough about our excellent faculty and students,” said Principal Anita Jorney-Gifford. “I am proud of all their hard work and the dedication they put in to making this such a great high school.”

FAQ -The New 8-12 Academic & Program Model at WHS (2012 and Beyond)

Question 1- How will the 8th Grade Class blend in with grades 9-12?

  • Answer- The 8th grade class will have its own wing in Wooster High School next year.  The majority of the 8th grade classes will be held in this wing.  However, there will be some 8th grade classes not housed in the 8th grade wing (i.e. music, physical education, enrichment classes, etc.).

Choir Concert "Greatest Hits"

The Wooster High School Choirs will join the Edgewood Choir for a performance of "Greatest Hits", songs that the choirs themselves, as well as their audiences, have enjoyed over the past 12 years.  The concert is Tuesday, May 15, 2012, and will begin at 7:30 p.m., with a reception to follow.

SAT and ACT Practice Tests Available Online

The ACT and SAT test times are fast approaching. To help students prepare, you can send them to INFOhio’s Learning Express Library for free practice tests, not only for the ACT and SAT, but also for many advanced placement tests.

National Honor Society Makes Donation

Members of Wooster High School’s National Honor Society raised $2000 by selling poinsettias for the holidays, and two charitable organizations were selected by the members to each receive $1000.

Holocaust and Dangers of Indifference Class Trip

50 Students from the Holocaust and Dangers of Indifference class at Wooster High recently traveled to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.  Students visited the Museum then stopped at various monuments along the National Mall in DC.  The trip was co-sponsored by the ADL.

Contemporary Issues Class Attend a Panel Discussion at the College of Wooster

On Feb. 27, 2012 WHS students from Nell Reardon's Contemporary Issues class, as well as students from the  I.B. program experienced an exceptional learning opportunity as they participated in a panel discussion at the College of Wooster featuring renown Middle East journalists Robin Wright and Rami Khouri. After the panel discussion they joined the featured Great Decisions speaker Ms.

Dance Information

We will post our expectations for dress and attendance for the all high school dances, Homecoming, Coming Home and Prom.  This will allow for ample time to prepare for these special evenings.

Induction for the Lura B. Kean Chapter of Wooster High School's National Honor Society was held Monday evening, September 26, 2011.

Nell Reardon Honored

Wooster High School teacher, Nell Reardon, was recently selected for a Day of Beauty Award from Sheer Professionals Hair Styling Studio in Wooster. Shown here with Donna Beam from Sheer Professionals, Mrs. Reardon was nominated by 1998 Wooster High School graduate, Erin Zuercher Marotta.

Americanism in Government Test Winners

Winners of the American Legion Americanism Test received a $25 cash prize along with the chance to represent Wooster High School at the State competition if they can win Wayne County.

WHS Hosts 9th District Court of Appeals

On Thursday, Dec 8, the 9th District Court of Appeals held Oral Arguments in the LGIR of Wooster High School for government students.  The court heard oral arguments on two appeals then fielded questions from the 100 government students who observed the proceedings.  

WHS Mock Trial

On Tuesday, Dec 6, students in Jolene Dyer's Government classes participated in a mock trial activity in the school auditorium during a 2-period session.  Local attorney Bonnie Drushal served as the Judge for the trial with students from 2nd period Government class playing the roles of defense attorneys, defense witnesses and half the jury.
