Overview

At Wooster City Schools, student safety and online focus are top priorities. In conjunction with our updated content filtering system, we are excited to offer the Lightspeed Parent Portal!

While our network filters protect students during school hours, the Parent Portal gives parents and guardians direct visibility and control over their child’s internet activity when school-issued devices are used outside of the school network (at home or after school).

Eligibility & Account Limits:

High School Only: This service is currently available exclusively for parents/guardians of high school students who take their district-issued devices home.
Parent Account Limit: Our system allows a maximum of 2 parent/guardian email addresses per student to be linked for Parent Portal access.

Key Portal Features:

With the Lightspeed Parent Portal, you can tailor your child's off-campus digital experience to fit your family’s routine and values:

Weekly Activity Reports: Automatically receive a weekly summary email every Sunday highlighting your child's online browsing trends, top-visited sites, and total page views.
Real-Time Web Activity: Monitor web activity as it happens with clear time stamps for all visited, allowed, and blocked sites.
Pause Internet Access: Temporarily pause browsing on demand for 1 hour, 3 hours, or until the next morning.
Custom Offline Schedules: Set automated schedules (like "Bedtime" or "Homework Time") to turn off web browsing or restrict specific site categories during set hours.
Custom Website Blocking & Category Controls: Restrict or block specific categories (such as social media, gaming, or video platforms like YouTube) or add specific domain blocklists as you see fit.

How Network Filtering Works (At School vs At Home)

It is important to understand how network policies apply depending on where your child's device is connected:

Environment	Filtering Policy & Controls	Activity Logging
At School (On School Network)	District filtering rules apply. Parent-set schedules and blocks are inactive	Monitored according to district policy.
At Home / Off-Campus (Outside School Network)	District baseline filters apply plus your custom parent schedules, category restrictions, and site blocks	Full daily logs and weekly summaries are visible to parents in the portal

Note on District Policy: District baseline safety filters always remain active to protect students. Parents cannot unblock or override websites that are restricted by default district policy.

The Weekly Student Online Activity Report

The Weekly Student Online Activity Report summarizes your child’s web browsing activity for the week; including page visits and website host metrics.

What's Included:

Top Websites: Top 10 visited hosts
Daily Website Visits: Number of pages visited per day
Total Browsed Hosts
Average Daily Page Visits

The Weekly Student Online Activity Report will be emailed straight to your inbox every Sunday containing the Subject: Filter Portal Weekly Report and sent from: do_not_reply@lightspeedsystems.com.

Getting Started

Getting started is simple and requires no app store download!

Annual Invitations: Account invitations are sent out automatically at the beginning of each school year from do_not_reply@lightspeedsystems.com with the subject line "Welcome to Parent Portal". (Be sure to check your spam/junk folder if you don't see it).
Mid-Year & Late Enrollments: If your student enrolled after the start of the school year and you would like a portal account created, please reach out to our technology team at technologydepartment@woostercityschools.org or message us through ParentSquare.

Account Registration Steps:

Click to Register: Click the "Start using Parent Portal" button in your invitation email and follow the prompts to complete account setup.
Toggle Between Children: If you have multiple high school students in the district, you can easily switch between their profiles using the student drop-down menu inside the portal.
Save to Your Phone: Access the portal on any browser, or save the shortcut directly to your smartphone's home screen for quick, app-like access:
- iPhone (Safari): Tap the Share button -> Select "Add to Home Screen" -> Tap Add.
- Android (Chrome): Tap the Three-Dot Menu -> Add to Home Screen" -> Tap Add.
