Wooster High School earns U.S. News Silver Medal Ranking

(April 25, 2017) – Wooster High School has once again earned a ‘silver’ ranking from the U.S. News list of “Best High Schools” in the United States. Each year, U.S. News ranks high schools nationwide based on various factors including math scores, reading scores and college preparation.

U.S. News has released an annual ranking of the nation’s best high schools since 2007. Of the 22,000 public high schools that were evaluated nationwide, only one-fourth were awarded gold, silver or bronze medals in this year’s rankings.

“We are extremely fortunate for an amazing collection of professional educators, students and families,” said Superintendent Dr.  Michael Tefs. “Though this a high school recognition, this honor is a terrific representation for the quality of education being delivered throughout the system, pre-K – 12.”

Wooster High School was ranked 75th in the state and 1,622nd in the nation.

U.S. News’ evaluation, conducted in conjunction with RTI International, includes school-specific data on enrollment, college readiness, student ethnicity, location, school type and results of state assessments and Advanced Placement tests.

“Congratulations to everyone at the high school and all stakeholders district-wide,” said Principal Tyler Keener. “This award is representative of the hard work and dedication of the teachers, staff and students.   We are humbled to be awarded this accolade for the third year in a row.  I am fortunate to collaboratively lead our staff in preparing our students for college and career readiness.”
