Casey Followay, a 2015 graduate of Wooster High School, will represent Team USA in track and field at the 2019 Parapan American Games, which take place in Lima, Peru, Aug. 24-28. Followay is one of 60 athletes to represent Team USA track and field at the Athletics Stadium in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna.
“We are all super excited for Casey and will be cheering him on, for sure,” said Dr. Michael Tefs, Superintendent of Wooster City School District. “He is an remarkable athlete, an incredible person and, as an alumnus, a terrific friend. We are so proud of him and all he continues to accomplish.”
Followay will compete in the seated 100 meters race. The Parapan American Games will feature 1,850 athletes competing in 17 sports, making it the biggest Parapan American Games to date.
Followay, who has spina bifida, a congenital spine defect that left his legs paralyzed, is a trailblazer. He was the first seated athlete in Ohio to join a school’s track team, leading Ohio to add seated events to the State Track and Field Championships.
