The Wooster City School District is pleased to announce Craig French has been named the new Wooster High School Band Director.
French comes to the Wooster City School District with more than 16 years of music education experience. He has a solid track record of recruiting and retaining students, and has shown the initiative to create new course offerings that are exciting and relevant to students. French believes building solid relationships with students and their parents is the key to a consistently successful program.
“I am excited to build upon the time-honored traditions of the music department, while advancing our band program in new and progressive ways,” said French. “The standard of excellence that has been created by past graduates sets a high bar for our students. I look forward to working with students to meet and exceed their goals.”
Most recently, French was the director of bands for the St. Marys City School District in St. Marys, Ohio where he oversaw the band program for approximately 387 students in grades 5-12. Additionally, during his time with the district, the middle school band saw a 40% increase in enrollment and a 25% increase at the high school level. Most notably, French lead the district’s student solo and ensembles to receive 80% superior ratings for four straight years.
French received a bachelor of music degree in Music Education from West Virginia University and a master of music degree in Conducting from the American Band College at Sam Houston State University, in Texas.
Originally from Berea, French and his wife, Angie, will be relocating to the Wooster area, along with their three children, Brendan, Mara and Joel.
“My family and I are looking forward to relocating to Wooster and becoming involved in this outstanding community,” said French.
Craig’s extensive music experience coupled with his passion for providing students with a solid educational experience make him an ideal director for our high school band program. He is a passionate and driven educator with the best interests of his students at heart. We look forward to seeing the positive impact that Craig will have on our students and the community. I strongly encourage you to attend a football game to see a band performance at halftime or take in a concert during the 2019-2020 school year.
Please join us in welcoming Craig to the Wooster City School District.
