Message from Superintendent Tefs - re: Hate, Racism and Intolerance

Dear Wooster City School District:

The events of this past weekend in Pittsburgh are shocking and absolutely heartbreaking.  As we keep the City of Pittsburgh and the victims in our thoughts and prayers let us please lead by example. The nation desperately needs our example.

This school system will not allow any form of hate, racism, classism, anti-Semitism, or intolerance to fill our learning spaces.  As a learning institution, we absolutely will stand against any form of intolerance and will defend, vigorously, human and civil rights.  As educators, parents, students, and protectors of children, we must condemn all acts of hate and violence.  We must call on all leaders and educators to take a stand against any form of intolerance.  That’s our call, our challenge.

At the core of the Wooster Way and our Principles of Practice is a significant commitment to ensure that every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. Hate has absolutely no place in our schools and, as educators, we have a responsibility to help instill civility and empathy in the next generation of citizens.  Stand with me and lead by example.  Be extra intentional with your empathy and support of those around you this week…and every week thereafter.

Thank you and Go Woo!

Michael Tefs, Ed.D.
