Crooks and Haas Named Associate Principals of Wooster High School

On June 26  the Wooster City School District Board of Education approved Heidi Haas as the newest associate principal of Wooster High School. She will be working alongside associate principal Sara Crooks and lead principal, Tyler Keener.

Sara has been with the district since 2014, serving most recently as principal of Parkview Elementary School. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Dayton in adolescent to young adult education in social studies for grades seven through 12 and a master’s degree of educational administration from Ashland University.

Prior to joining WCSD, Sara was a social studies teacher at Ashland High School (AHS) from 2007-2014. During this time, she also coached the AHS Varsity Boys and Girls Tennis team and was a member of the AHS building leadership team (BLT) and district leadership team (DLT).

“I look forward to building relationships with the students and the staff members at Wooster High School,” said Crooks. “I have loved my time at Parkview, but really enjoy being a part of growing adolescents into young adults and this opportunity will allow me to do just that. I have been so grateful for the village that has surrounded my family since we moved to Wooster and look forward to deepening my roots here in my new role.”

Sara now resides in Wooster with her husband, Justin, who she considers her best teammate. The couple has a two-year-old son, Elliot and are expecting their second child in October 2018. They also have a dog named Charlie and a cat named Lincoln. In her spare time, Crooks enjoys playing tennis, hiking in the woods and spending time with family at Lake Erie.

Heidi Haas recently completed an administrative internship at the high school. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood, adolescent to young adult education in special education, mild to moderate (K-12) from Providence College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Concordia University of Chicago.

Prior to joining WCSD, Haas was an intervention specialist at Triway Junior High School. During her time at Triway, Haas served as a member of the Triway Junior High School BLT. She also served as a member of the Edgewood Middle School BLT/DLT from 2015-2017. Haas has also held numerous coaching positions over the years including assistant varsity volleyball coach and head varsity coach for Triway High School, varsity basketball head coach for Triway High School and Edgewood Middle School basketball coach. In 2014, she assumed the position of athletic director at the middle school.

“I look forward to serving our school as an educational leader and growing within the educational field,” said Haas. “I hope to continue to build on my relationships with both staff and students and find joy in each day I walk through the doors. I feel blessed to have such a great opportunity to serve in the very school that I graduated from. I had amazing teachers and coaches during my time at Wooster High School, and I cannot wait to get started!”

Haas is a graduate of Wooster High School. She and her husband Doug, who is the head football coach, have three children, Jake, Maxwell and Karly. In her free time, Haas enjoys reading and going to the beach with her family each summer. She is currently training to compete in her first 70.3 IRONMAN race, taking place in July.
