EdChoice Update: Application period extended to April 1, 2020.
The General Assembly voted last Friday to delay any further legislative action on EdChoice until April 1, 2020.
The extension will provide the legislature time to reach consensus on how best to address the explosion of public schools designated as EdChoice eligible. In fiscal year (FY) 2019, that list stood at 255 buildings in 31 school districts. If the legislature fails to reach an agreement on a new plan, that list will balloon to 1,227 buildings in 426 districts (77% of Ohio) for FY 2021.
While an agreement between the House and Senate could not be reached prior to the original February 1 deadline, your advocacy was powerful and made a 60-day extension possible. You should be proud of your efforts, but our work is not done! Once the General Assembly releases new information, we will be sure to share that with our Wooster community. In the Wooster CSD, we are simply advocating that local tax dollars not be used to suport private/parochial schools.
Thank you again for your tremendous advocacy over the past several weeks!
